Disney+’s Ms. Marvel Series Casts Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer

Although Ms. Marvel will have plenty of superhero action, it doesn’t change the fact that Kamala Khan is a teenager who still has to navigate the thorny social politics of high school. And what would any teen drama be without the occasional bully to deal with? According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Laurel Marsden will fill this role on Disney+’s upcoming series. Marsden will play Zoe Zimmer, a supporting character from Kamala’s orbit in the comics.

Writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona introduced Zoe as one of Kamala’s classmates at Coles Academic High School. In her early appearances, Zoe was portrayed as a typical mean girl who often mocked Kamala and her friends for having immigrant parents. However, she was also the first person Kamala saved after Terrigenesis awakened her polymorphic abilities. Zoe later warmed up to Kamala sometime after Marvel’s Secret Wars event. And eventually, she came out as a lesbian.

It doesn’t look like Marsden has been acting for very long. Last year, she showed up in two episodes of the Quibi series, Survive, which also starred Sophie Turner. She will appear on Ms. Marvel opposite Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan.

Bisha K. Ali is serving as the head writer for Ms. Marvel. The series’ directorial team includes Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon. Production began in Atlanta last fall. In December, Marvel premiered some early footage from the series during Disney’s Investor Day livestream.

Ms. Marvel is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
