Star Trek began as a short-lived television series in 1966. Though it was canceled after only three seasons, Star Trek developed a devoted following and has gone on to achieve massive pop-cultural success with 13 feature films and 12 television series so far. When Strange New Worlds debuted in 2022, the show had a lot of expectations to live up to, and some fans were concerned that a show set less than a decade before James Kirk became captain of the Enterprise wouldn't quite be up to par.
