Netflix is adding another critically acclaimed fantasy epic to its library next month. The visually striking medieval drama, known for its moody storytelling and bold reinterpretation of Arthurian legend, will begin streaming soon.

The Green Knight begins streaming on Netflix in March
The Green Knight is headed to Netflix, with the 2021 fantasy drama set to begin streaming on March 1 (via What’s on Netflix). The film features Dev Patel alongside Alicia Vikander and draws its inspiration from the centuries-old Arthurian tale Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
At the heart of the story is Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s nephew, who takes on a strange Christmas dare that launches him into a dangerous quest to face the mysterious and otherworldly Green Knight.
The movie is written and directed by David Lowery and backed by A24, a studio known for its artsy, filmmaker-driven projects. Patel plays Gawain as a young knight hungry for glory but still wrestling with his own weaknesses.
Vikander takes on two separate roles: Essel and the Lady of the castle. Rather than a full sword-swinging blockbuster, the film leans into moody visuals, rich symbolism, and a slow-burning, psychological tone that sets it apart from typical medieval epics.
When The Green Knight hit theaters in 2021, critics were largely on board. The film currently boasts an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers applauding its striking visuals, layered performances, and thoughtful storytelling.
Over on IMDb, it holds a 6.6 rating. That said, audience reactions weren’t totally unanimous. Some moviegoers connected with its slow-burning, symbolic storytelling, while others felt the pacing was a bit off the beaten path.
Now, with its Netflix rollout scheduled for March 1, the movie is poised to find an even wider audience. The streaming debut offers both first-time viewers and curious rewatchers a fresh chance to explore one of A24’s most talked-about and visually daring fantasy titles.
