Legendary’s Monsterverse is expanding. As per a Deadline report, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic are now a part of the studio’s upcoming show for Apple TV. Wyatt Russell stars in this untitled show and will also serve as an executive producer.
Nielsen is known for Gladiator and Wonder Woman, while Katic gained recognition through Castle and Absentia. Right now, their characters remain undisclosed. Besides the duo, Millie Brady, Pilou Asbæk, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, and Nyasha Hatendi have also been cast.
What else do we know about the new Monsterverse TV show?
The series will follow Colonel Lee Shaw during a secret mission in 1984. Shaw is an American operative who travels behind enemy lines to stop the Soviets from unleashing a powerful new Titan.
The creature could destroy the United States and change the outcome of the Cold War. The story will therefore combine military tension with the larger monster mythology established across the franchise.
Wyatt Russell previously played the younger Lee Shaw in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. His father, Kurt Russell, portrayed the older version of the character in the Apple TV series. The new show will serve as a prequel to that story.
Legendary’s Monsterverse began with 2014’s Godzilla. The franchise continued with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Legendary and Apple TV have not announced the series title or premiere date. They also continue to keep the new cast members’ roles secret.
Harold executive produces with Tory Tunnell, Russell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, Andy Goddard and other producers. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita also represent Toho, the owner of the Godzilla character, as executive producers.
The project is also part of Harold’s overall deal with Legendary, which covers new and returning Titans across the wider Monsterverse for Apple TV in future stories.
