Five Emmys might sound like the perfect argument for a comeback. For Oren Uziel, however, the future is much murkier. The creator admitted he has no clear answer on whether Spider-Noir could return, alleging the revival could face many hurdles, including legal ones.
Oren Uziel explains why a Spider-Noir comeback is difficult to predict
Uziel told Variety in a recent interview that he initially feared the cancellation news would overshadow the ceremony. Instead, the opposite happened. Each victory lifted the room further, creating what he described as a celebration of “what we accomplished together.” He compared the winning streak to watching children get hit after hit during a softball game.
Uziel was also asked whether Spider-Noir could ever return. He admitted that he could not speak to the legal hurdles surrounding a revival, but he does not expect the process to be simple. “I literally do not know the legalities and complications of that,” Uziel said, adding that he believes bringing the series back would be “a complicated proposition.”
Had another season received the green light, Uziel already had plenty of roads to explore. Ben Reilly, played by Nicolas Cage, could have continued investigating cases after retaining his Spider abilities.
Uziel wanted to leave New York behind, too, floating Los Angeles or Europe as possible destinations. He also saw a much larger historical path ahead, with the story beginning in 1933 and eventually approaching World War II.
Yet Uziel does not view the first season as unfinished business. He called it a “very closed-ended show,” explaining that its noir structure naturally wrapped up its central mystery. His real regret involves the people behind it. “My biggest regret” is not getting another chance to make something with the same cast and crew, he said.
Cage remains part of that wish. Uziel called the actor’s first television role “a dream” and said he would “love to do it again with Nick.”
