Lanterns just shut down one of the show’s biggest fan theories in the most brutal way possible. Episode 5 reveals the truth behind Antaan’s connection to a classic DC villain that fans were convinced would appear.

The episode’s earlier teaser had also fueled the theory with striking imagery. A drop of Manhunter blood falls directly into John Stewart’s eye during his healing sequence. That visual echoed Atrocitus’s well-documented history with blood rituals in DC Comics.
However, the blood turns out to be Zoe Macon’s Manhunter technology repairing John’s severe burns. Zoe heals him after he suffers injuries in a car fire that Hal’s recklessness caused. In exchange, she asks John to let Hal die and redirect the Guardians away from her.
Antaan’s death also removes the last alien threat from Rushville’s 2016 timeline. He kills Will Macon after Hal falsely identifies him as the Manhunter. Hal then contains Antaan’s self-detonation within a ring shield before the blast reaches civilians.
John later takes Hal’s ring, kills Zoe, and delivers her crystallized heart to Guardian Lianna. He then quits the Green Lantern Corps minutes after joining.
“It’s funny how Antaan was hyped up to be Atrocitus for so long only to be the alien who is killed by Hal’s tornado construct in tonights episode,” a fan posted his reaction on X.
The series now shifts toward its central 2026 mystery with three episodes remaining.
