After six straight weekends atop the domestic box office, Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropped to No. 2, overtaken by Warner Bros.’ Practical Magic 2. But the Marvel blockbuster’s reign ending comes with a staggering consolation prize: it now sits roughly $1 million away from an all-time domestic record.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends up at No. 2 this weekend
Practical Magic 2 opened to $30 million from 4,146 theaters, averaging $7,235 per location. The Susanne Bier-directed sequel, produced on a $75 million budget, also added $16 million from 77 overseas markets.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $8.4 million in its seventh weekend across 3,303 theaters, a 53.8% drop from the previous frame. Its domestic total now stands at $935.17 million. That number leaves Destin Daniel Cretton’s film just about $1 million shy of Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens’ $936.6 million domestic haul. Once it crosses that mark, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will become the biggest movie in U.S. box office history.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey slipped to No. 3 with $7.4 million, pushing its domestic cume to $600.5 million in its ninth week. The Universal release also became the studio’s highest-grossing global title ever, surpassing 2015’s Jurassic World.
Angel Studios’ Runner debuted fourth with $6.4 million, while Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top five at $6.2 million. The domestic weekend totaled roughly $86 million — down 43% from the comparable 2025 frame and 9% from last weekend — though 2026’s year-to-date gross of $7.5 billion remains 19% ahead of last year (via Box Office Mojo).
The film, the 38th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man series following 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland leads a cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
