Harry Potter TV show has added a key member of the Weasley family for its sophomore season. The upcoming HBO series is currently in production for season 2 and has added Jurassic World star Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley.
The head of the Weasley family was first introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in the series, which will be adapted in season 2 of the show. The character was previously played by Mark Williams in the Harry Potter films.
Variety has reported that Rafe Spall is one of three new actors joining the TV show. He comes with an impressive resume, having previously starred in Bait, Life of Pi, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and more. Spall also played Joe Potter in the Black Mirror episode “White Christmas,” receiving much praise for his performance.
The actor will also be seen in The Death of Sherlock Holmes, where he’ll play the eponymous detective. The news comes weeks after the character’s daughter, Ginny Weasley, was recast for season 2.

Following Spall, the Harry Potter show has also added Molly Hewitt-Richards and Jasper Ambrose as Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey, respectively. Season 2 recently added Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle, along with Doctor Who alum Lenny Rush playing Dobby.
The show has also cast Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, one of the antagonists in the second season. Following these casting announcements, the key players for Harry Potter season 2 are now locked in.
The upcoming fantasy show has grand ambitions, with a ten-year-long plan to adapt each book. Given the increased runtime, the show aims to adapt parts of the books that the movies couldn’t. Despite that, fans have expressed mixed opinions after watching its trailer, and the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling isn’t helping the show.
Harry Potter season 1 is scheduled to release on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026.
