A new Avengers: Secret Wars casting rumor has provided Blade fans with an unexpected update regarding Mahershala Ali’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Industry insider MyTimeToShineH recently responded to a post by scoop account Blue Minutes, who claimed that the Oscar-winning Moonlight and Green Book actor will make his live-action debut as a Blade variant in the 2027 ensemble film.
MyTimeToShineH wrote, “They want him to, but he doesn’t.”
According to Blue Minutes’ original post, the actor will appear as a Blade variant in the 2027 Avengers movie. Moreover, the insider added, “There will be no Blade movie, as I heard. He’s saying he’s over it, but he’s keeping it a secret. He already played his character in his animated series What If, and now he’s ready to do this in live action. Get ready for it.”
However, these are only rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt. Marvel Studios has not confirmed this yet.
Moreover, Ali had recently declared that he “was officially done with the role” in the MCU’s Blade reboot. The reboot was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Since then, there have been no updates on the movie, leading Ali to step away from the project.
Who do we know will definitely be showing up in Avengers: Secret Wars?
Although Marvel has not yet disclosed much about the Avengers: Secret Wars cast, there are some confirmed details and heavy rumors out there. For instance, Simu Liu recently confirmed that his character, Shang-Chi, will be part of Secret Wars.
Apart from the wielder of the Ten Rings, Kevin Feige and the studio have strongly indicated that characters from the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises will appear in the 2027 Avengers movie.
Additionally, the insider James Mack reported that many female characters in the MCU will get a major spotlight in the Doomsday sequel. Noah Jupe has been cast in a significant role in the movie. Some rumors suggest that Jupe may play an older Franklin Richards; however, this is not confirmed yet.
Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to release in theaters on December 17, 2027.
