Marvel Studios recently posted a skit about silencing phones in theaters. It showed the Doomsday cast, including James Marsden in costume, attending a screening. For the first time, James Marsden will wear a comic-accurate Cyclops costume, and fans are excited to see it on the big screen.
James Marsden played Scott Summers/Cyclops in all three X-Men movies produced by 20th Century Fox. The movies depicted the mutants wearing all-black latex suits, instead of comic-accurate costumes. As the actors return to play variants of their characters in the MCU, their costumes resemble the ones shown in X-Men: The Animated Series.
Fans have expressed their excitement. One user, @buttonmoon112, noted, “God, he’s perfection”. Another user, @ScatterBrainUK, pointed out how long it took to get the original X-Man in the costume, hoping the MCU does better going forward. He stated, “Let’s hope when it’s Kit’s turn, it doesn’t take as many years as it’s been to get Marsden in that outfit.”
James Marsden’s Cyclops suit is only one part of his return to the X-Men world
After watching the X-Men trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, Marsden had a few things to say about his return to the character. He stated, “It felt really good. It was really special. It had been so long. To see how enthusiastic and how waiting with bated breath everyone is to see this movie, it feels good. To have that epic shot with modern technology and special effects.”
While fans are excited to see Scott Summers in his comic-accurate uniform, there’s also plenty of hype around discovering where the character’s story has gone since audiences last saw them. X-Men and X2 are on the required watchlist for Doomsday, suggesting Scott’s death in X-Men: The Last Stand may be largely disregarded.
