A new rumor about Marvel‘s upcoming crossover movie suggests Wanda Maximoff could return to action. The update also mentions which multiverse character would appear in the film.
According to industry scooper MyTimeToShineH on X, the Wanda who reportedly appears in Avengers: Doomsday will be the Earth-616 version of the character. However, the rumor does not provide additional details about her role or how she could fit into the story, especially after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Famously played by Elizabeth Olsen, the Earth-616 version is the primary, main-universe version of Wanda. But Marvel introduced the alternate, peaceful Earth-838 version of the character, who lives with her two children in the second solo Doctor Strange film.
In the movie, the Earth-616 Wanda seemingly died at the end after destroying the Darkhold at Mount Wundagore. Ever since, Marvel has not featured the character in live-action projects and has not confirmed her appearance in Doomsday. Hence, fans should treat the rumor with caution.
The Wanda rumor comes as Avengers: Doomsday details continue to emerge
Marvel has remained tight-lipped about the next major superhero film. However, the director duo has shared details about the production and its large ensemble in interviews.
In a recent interview with Fandango, co-director Anthony Russo revealed that the movie has a runtime of “two and a half hours.” The 56-year-old also said the movie has “a large cast” and they only announced “some” of it.
A recent wide-view ScreenX trailer of the movie hinted at the MCU return of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). Jimmy Fallon asked the actress about her potential role in Doomsday, and she neither confirmed nor denied it. “I have no idea; time will tell,” Steinfeld said.
The film marks the first Avengers film after the Infinity Saga and will see Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role of Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release on December 18, 2026.
