Peter Dinklage’s biggest fantasy movie with Rachel Zegler hits Hulu this month
Hulu’s October 2026 schedule confirms The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes arrives on the platform on October 14. The 2023 dystopian prequel also departs Netflix on the same day. Peter Dinklage, Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Viola Davis, and Hunter Schafer star in the film.
Francis Lawrence directed the movie from a screenplay by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. The story adapts Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel of the same name. It serves as the fifth installment in The Hunger Games film series and a prequel to the original 2012 movie.
The film follows young Coriolanus Snow as he mentors tribute Lucy Gray Baird in the 10th Annual Hunger Games. Dinklage plays Casca Highbottom, the dean of the Academy who oversees the mentors. Blyth portrays Snow, while Zegler takes on the role of Lucy Gray. Davis plays Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the Head Gamemaker of the tournament.
Lionsgate produced the movie on a $100 million budget. The film grossed $361.8 million worldwide during its theatrical run. It opened to $44 million domestically, topping the box office but marking the franchise’s lowest debut.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 64% approval rating from 243 critics. Metacritic assigned it a score of 54 out of 100 from 53 critics. CinemaScore audiences gave it a B+ grade on an A+ to F scale. The film won the People’s Choice Award for Action Movie of the Year.
All five Hunger Games movies leave Netflix on October 14 and arrive on Hulu the same day. Alongside the prequel, the four original films starring Jennifer Lawrence also make the switch. A sequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is set for release on November 20, 2026.
