Jeremy Renner Gives MCU Fans a Huge Avengers Tease, But It’s Not What Anyone Expected

Jeremy Renner may have dropped a major hint about the MCU‘s future. The actor’s latest social media post has sparked speculation about a potential Marvel adaptation.

Renner’s recent Instagram Story features several issues of The West Coast Avengers comic-book series. The actor shared the image without a caption, prompting speculation among fans. Many believe that the Hawkeye actor could be teasing a future MCU project, bringing this beloved group of superheroes to life.

Hawkeye founded the West Coast Avengers in the comics, which may explain why some fans are connecting Renner’s post to a possible adaptation. However, this remains an unverified rumor. It is possible that Renner is just showing off his TBR list with the photo. Furthermore, Marvel has not made any official announcement regarding a West Coast Avengers movie or show.

The superhero team first appeared in The West Coast Avengers #1, published in 1984. The series was the first major comic-book spin-off from The Avengers.

What we know about the MCU’s future and upcoming projects

The MCU’s ongoing Phase Six within The Multiverse Saga will come to an end with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. The franchise’s future has already begun taking shape with future storylines and sagas.

In July 2025, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed to GamesRadar that the three phases of the MCU’s next saga are “already well into development.” The following year, he teased that Secret Wars will “establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that audiences can keep up with. Some things will be familiar, but many, many things will be entirely new (via IGN).”

Feige has also indicated that the X-Men will play a central role in the MCU’s next saga. Sadie Sink has already made her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She will return in the upcoming X-Men reboot, alongside Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm.

The untitled X-Men movie will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
