Universal Pictures has announced the title for the upcoming The Mummy sequel starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are set to direct the long-awaited sequel.
The franchise’s official X account announced the title and release date. The fourth installment is titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead and will release on October 15, 2027.
Although the studio did not reveal plot details, the announcement offers a new update on the sequel, which follows the franchise’s earlier films by more than two decades. The return of Fraser and Weisz reunites the franchise’s original leads.
What we know about Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s fourth Mummy movie
The film follows The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, ignoring the events of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Fraser reprises his role as Rick O’Connell, while Weisz returns as Evelyn “Evy” Carnahan-O’Connell after not appearing in the third film. Maria Bello played Evy in the third installment.
The returning cast also includes John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep, Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J. O’Connor as Beni Gabor. Despite O’Connor’s character’s death during the events of The Mummy Returns, he is still part of the returning cast. Numan Acar and Michael Johnston also join the cast in undisclosed roles.
Directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, will direct the film from a screenplay written by David Coggeshall. Longtime franchise producer Sean Daniel produces the film alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and Clayton Townsend, with Fraser serving as executive producer. Brian Tyler will produce the music for the upcoming film.
Principal photography began in early September 2026 in London and Morocco. Recent set images offered a first look at the movie’s lead cast, marking their reunion after 25 years.
