A new Avengers: Secret Wars rumor hints at the possible involvement of a surprise Marvel team following Jeremy Renner’s recent Instagram tease. The speculation suggests that Renner could have a bigger role in the upcoming ensemble film than expected, despite his absence from Avengers: Doomsday.
Scooper James Mack has claimed that the “West Coast Avengers will be adapted for Secret Wars.” The response was in reply to another user asking if the West Coast Avengers will be featured in VisionQuest. In Marvel’s comics, it was Vision who suggested that Hawkeye form a new team of superheroes.
It should be noted that this is just a rumor and should be treated as such. Marvel Studios has not officially announced any plans regarding the West Coast Avengers in its upcoming films.
Jeremy Renner’s recent Marvel tease adds context to the new rumor
Most recently, Renner, who portrays Hawkeye, shared a photo of several Marvel comics featuring the West Coast Avengers. The post left fans puzzled at the time, but the new rumor may offer some context. If the speculation proves true, Renner could have been hinting at the team’s development and his potential involvement well ahead of an official announcement.
Renner last played Hawkeye in the eponymous Disney+ series in 2021. The show ended with him training Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. Hawkeye has also had an entertaining relationship with Wanda Maximoff and Vision in the MCU. In Marvel Comics, the West Coast Avengers team also includes Kate Bishop, Vision, and several other characters featured in Marvel’s Disney+ shows.
Recently, Renner also joked that the heroes would lose in Avengers: Doomsday because Hawkeye was not part of the film. He was referring to Avengers: Infinity War, in which the heroes suffered defeat at the hands of Thanos without Hawkeye appearing in the movie.
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to release on December 17, 2027. Before that, Avengers: Doomsday will hit the theaters on December 18, 2026.
