Technological advancements are happening at lightning speed, and many films are being made that showcase that change. The Artifice Girl takes a look at an advanced A.I. who may or may not have emotions. Feeling like a low-key, smaller-scale take on ideas explored in A24's Ex Machina, The Artifice Girl tackles weighty themes that eerily apply to our future as a society. The film's plotting feels awkward, and the script is overstuffed with dialogue, yet it also contains great exploration into some captivating subject matter and an excellent performance from young actress Tatum Matthews. Despite its familiar territory and missteps, The Artifice Girl is not a film to completely dismiss.
