George RR Martin Reveals His Thoughts On ‘House Of The Dragon’

Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin has publically revealed his thoughts on the upcoming prequel, House of the Dragon.

The various Game of Thrones prequels shows in development have had something of a complicated history. Originally the franchise was developing a prequel that took place thousands of years in the past and was said to explore the origins of the White Walkers and starred Naomi Watts. That series was canceled and HBO opted to go with the House of the Dragon series. In addition, another prequel series titled Tales of Dunk and Egg is also in development.

The first of these series, House of the Dragon is currently set to debut in 2022, and work on the series seems to be coming to a close. The first trailer debuted earlier this year and now creator George RR Martain has seen the rough cut of the first episode. In a recent post on his website, the writer revealed that he loved what he saw so far but obviously couldn’t say what he had seen:

The new year is almost at hand, and with it will come all manner of new television shows, on network, cable, and streamers.

I have got to confess, I was chuffed to read that the most anticipated new show, according to IMDB, was…

(drum roll, please)

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON!

That’s a hell of a list to be at the top of, too. Amazon’s new Tolkien series? Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN? Marvel shows? STAR WARS shows?

Good company.

I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.

Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with GAME OF THRONES, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling).

I think the Targaryens are in very good hands.

Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series:

Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen (a.k.a. the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Miguel Sapochnik will serve as the showrunner with Martin and Ryan Condal. House of the Dragon stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.

House Of The Dragon is set to premiere in 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
