Jared Leto’s Joker returns in two new images from the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League.
Vanity Fair has revealed two never-before-seen images from the upcoming Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, giving fans a first look at Jared Leto’s Joker. The images show the villain locked up in some sort of insane asylum, rocking a longer hairstyle without the controversial tattoos seen in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. You can check out the images below.
According to Vanity Fair, Jared Leto’s Joker returns during a Knightmare sequence featured in Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut. This take on the character is described as a “Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, supplying motivation through terror.” Here’s what Snyder had to say about the sequence:
“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman. It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
Zack Snyder is currently working on his Justice League cut for HBO Max. Previously, in a comment on Instagram, Justice League stunt performer Nick McKinless revealed that there was apparently an entire fight sequence between Ares and a younger Darkseid when he first invaded Earth in the Zack Snyder Cut. The actor was cast as Ares for the sequence and trained for four months to get in proper shape for the role. However, McKinless was not credited in the thetrical cut of the movie.
Darkseid almost played a larger role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and subsequent DC Extended Universe films. However, after Joss Whedon assumed directorial duties during post-production and oversaw extensive re-shoots for Justice League, Darkseid was removed from the theatrical cut and Warner Bros. reassessed their plans for future DCEU films following the underwhelming reviews and box office gross of the film. Snyder’s original 5 movie-arc for the DCEU was also said to include events like the murder of Lois Lane and of half the Justice League, with Darkseid taking control of the heartbroken Superman with the Anti-Life Equation.
Here is the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is expected to hit WarnerMedia’s HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Jared Leto’s Joker and the Zack Snyder Cut, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
