Marvel Producer Speaks On New Strategy For ‘Echo’ Disney Plus Release

Marvel Studios is trying out a brand new release strategy for Echo when it releases on Disney Plus, but will it stick around for future MCU projects?

Unlike every other MCU Disney Plus show prior, Echo is dropping all five episodes at once when it releases on January 9th. This isn’t the only novel approach Marvel has taken to releasing their shows, with What If…? season 2 landing a daily release schedule. According to one of the show’s producers, this change in strategy allows for more creative freedom for the projects:

“It allows us an opportunity to kind of go ideas first,” Producer Richie Palmer told “Find characters from the comics, whether they’re established characters like Daredevil or new characters like Maya, and kind of get to just tell awesome stories that are totally different from one another.”

“So getting to tell a gritty grounded violent story for Maya in the next couple of years, we’ll see some completely different with another new character from the comics. And that to me is the most fun part of the future of Marvel, especially on the television side. But that’s the opportunities that are being award to us right now, that we get to do all those different things.”

“And like What If…?, like you mentioned, can be released over nine nights over the holidays and this awesome multiverse animated series that is so kick-ass and big. And then we get to tell a grounded gritty story in one night with Maya Lopez. Getting to do those different things is the best part of the future.”

Many fans have worried that Echo dropping all at once is a sign the show’s quality is less than other Disney Plus shows put out by Marvel Studios. However, it seems as though it’s simply a byproduct of the MCU getting more creative with how it releases its project. Hopefully their gamble pays off it making Echo the success it deserves to be!

Echo is set to debut early next year on Disney Plus, with every episode of the show being released at once. This makes it the first MCU project on Disney Plus to follow the Netflix binge model of releasing all of the episodes on the same day.

Alaqua Cox’s Hawkeye spinoff series will be the tenth overall original Marvel Studios series for Disney Plus. It’s also one of two live-action spin-offs from a previous series — the other being the WandaVision offshoot Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Serving as executive producers on Echo are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, and Jason Gavin, while Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King, and Jennifer Booth will serve as co-executive producers.
