Andrew Garfield has opened up about a moment he shared with Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home which was ultimitly cut from the film.
Andrew Garfield’s and Tobey Maguire’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home was perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood history. While everyone continuously denied their involvement with the film, the two appeared roughly mid-way through the film to aid Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. On-screen the three were a blast to watch and even recreated an iconic Spider-Man meme in the film. As with all films, however, several moments were left on the cutting room floor.
In a recent interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Andrew Garfield opened up about a cut moment with Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Specifically, the two were doing what he described as “old-man stretches” in order to prepare for the coming fight:
“It was so playful and creative and free, and like, I loved the fact that Tobey has his back issues and I’m all like, being his friend by saying I have my back issues too. I was stretching at one point in that scene. Like, I was doing old man stretching before that moment, which didn’t make the cut, but I think it’s better that that was all Tobey’s.”
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Marvel’s No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Hardy.
