‘X-Men’ Director On Who He Thinks Should Replace Hugh Jackman As Wolverine

X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaugh has revealed who he thinks should replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has access to various Fox Marvel properties – including the X-Men – the possibilities are endless. Fans are hoping to see Wolverine return to the silver screen, preferably with Hugh Jackman in tow. Jackman last appeared as the mutant in Logan, which operated as a swan song for the iconic hero. It’s unclear if Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in an upcoming Marvel Studios project. Should a reprisal not work out, X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaughn has an idea who should play the clawed-out Canuck.

Whilst chatting with Comicbook.com to promote The King’s Man, Matthew Vaughn revealed that he would love to work on a Wolverine project and that he has ideas as to who could potentially replace Hugh Jackman.

“[To] cast the young Wolverine [in a] reboot…that would be fun. It could go in such a different direction where Hugh [Jackman] took it as well. I think Hugh knocked it out of the park but I think out of all of the X-Men that’s the character that I get drawn to. Yeah, Wolverine.”

“Well, he’s got older now, but I would say Tom Hardy would have been awesome. I think Taron [Egerton] could do it in his sleep. Aaron Taylor-Johnson could do it as well. I mean, I think Aaron or Taron would be my first two choices could do it really well.”

These are all fine choices! Tom Hardy is naturally busy with Venom and Aaron Taylor-Johnson previously appeared as Quicksilver in the franchise. The star is now set to appear as Kraven The Hunter for Sony’s Spider-Man universe, which doesn’t make him the perfect contender for Wolverine. However, Taron Egerton would be a great choice for the role, as fans have rallied behind him for years to take over Hugh Jackman’s mutant.

The latest film to come out Marvel Studios is Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
