Zachary Levi’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods has wrapped filming according to director David F. Sandberg.
Shazam! blew fans away in 2019 with its emotional, family-focused story, laugh-out-loud moments, and hilarious and heartfelt performances by Zachary Levi and Asher Angel. The action-comedy was the perfect example of how DC was capable of producing films that went beyond just being dark and brooding. The film quickly became a success and a sequel was commissioned shortly afterward, with director David F. Sandberg back behind the camera.
After a long shoot, David F. Sandberg has revealed on Twitter that filming on Shazam! Fury of the Gods has wrapped.
Late last week, Asher Angel and Zachary Levi celebrated their final scenes by taking a behind-the-scenes photo together. Details on Shazam! Fury of the Gods are slim, though it is known that the sequel will feauture the Daughters of Atlas the big bads. While its curtains on filming, the DC sequel won’t hit cinemas until the summer of 2023! That gives David F. Sandberg considerable amount of time to rest up and finish up the film in post!
Here is the official synopsis for Zachary Levi’s first Shazam! movie:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
