The DCU still doesn’t have a Batman. Thanks to his work on Reacher, Alan Ritchson has become a leading name among fans to take up the mantle of the Caped Crusader. Last year, the actor revealed that he had indeed spoken with DC Studios, though the details remain under wraps.
In an interview with Collider, Peter Safran revealed what multiple conversations with Ritchson have led to. He said, “We talked about a couple of things, but nothing that’s come to fruition at this point. I think he’s great. Yeah, but he’s just good. I also think there’s a lot more depth to him than you might have seen. I think there’s more that he can do that people haven’t seen.”
Alan Ritchson has addressed DCU casting rumors and his Batman future
Alan Ritchson knows exactly the kind of character that he wants to play in the DCU. According to ScreenRant, he said he wanted to play someone “messier” instead of a clean-cut hero. While that might suggest Ritchson could be stepping into Bruce Wayne’s shoes, he believes Batman might not be in his future after all.
In 2025, speaking with Variety, he said, “I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman.” He later added, “But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”
Fans have also wanted to see Ritchson play other characters, if not the Dark Knight. Shazam and Aquaman are two characters fans have also wanted to see the Reacher alum play. James Gunn, who is currently leading DC Studios with Safran, has said he is a fan of Ritchson. It might only be a matter of time before Alan Ritchson makes his DCU debut.
