Asa Germann may have missed out on playing Cyclops, but Marvel clearly saw another X-Men role that suited him. The actor is now in final talks to portray Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, in the upcoming reboot. Fans have already turned the casting into a lively debate.

Germann originally competed for Cyclops, a role that ultimately went to Kit Connor. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel apparently liked what it saw anyway, offering Germann the chance to play the winged mutant instead. The reaction has largely been upbeat, with one fan calling him “great casting” while another praised his work in Scream.
Some viewers, however, are already trying to make sense of the new team’s ages. One fan questioned why Cyclops is 23, Jean Grey is 24, Storm is 23, Emma Frost is 34 and Angel is 28 when the characters are generally expected to feel closer in age. Others simply celebrated the growing lineup, declaring that “the X-Men is already stacked.”
Another theory has fans reading Germann’s casting as a sign that Marvel genuinely wanted him in the movie. One reaction suggested that losing the Cyclops part may have worked like “the audition for the right one.”
Marvel has already filled out much of the new X-Men lineup after spending the summer putting performers through meetings, auditions, and screen tests. Sadie Sink is set to play Jean Grey, with Kit Connor taking on Cyclops and Christopher Abbott stepping into the role of Professor X.
The ensemble also features Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the announced names in a very different role. The actor will portray Mr. Sinister, placing him on the villainous side of Marvel’s mutant story.
Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, has been part of the X-Men mythos since Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced him in 1963. His enormous feathered wings are the character’s signature ability, giving him the power of flight.
That changes after Apocalypse transforms them into metallic wings that can also launch projectiles. The role has previously been played on screen by Ben Foster and Ben Hardy in the earlier X-Men films.
