A new report about Avengers: Secret Wars has raised questions about the film’s production timeline. The Marvel blockbuster is still scheduled for release in December 2027, but the latest claims have sparked concerns about its progress. Marvel Studios has yet to comment on the reported filming schedule.
Avengers: Secret Wars rumored to film next year despite December 2027 release date
Marvel Studios could have a tight production schedule for Avengers: Secret Wars if a new industry report proves accurate. According to a post on X from insider DanielRPK, filming may be expected to start in February 2027, even though the superhero film remains scheduled to reach theaters on December 17 of the same year.
This would leave approximately 10 months between the reported start of filming and its planned arrival in theaters. Such a tight schedule could make completing the film’s visual effects and other post-production work particularly demanding. However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the production date or announce any changes to the film’s release plan.
Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo will also be directing Avengers: Secret Wars. In a previous interview with AP News, Joe Russo spoke about the challenge of making two major films consecutively. “When you’re doing one of these movies, it’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done. When you’re doing two of them, it’s almost inconceivable. But it’s the second time around we’re doing two back to back,” he said.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, with Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
The cast for Doomsday includes Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, among many others. Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom, marking his return to the MCU after previously playing Iron Man.
