James Gunn recently delivered a hopeful update about the DCU’s Dark Knight. While Superman has had his time to shine, the other two members of DC’s trinity are yet to make a meaningful on-screen appearance.
Gunn recently revealed that it won’t be long before the casting for Batman can begin. The character made a cameo in Creature Commandos, but it was a non-speaking role. The character will make his debut in Batman: Brave and the Bold. However, Gunn also revealed more recently that casting is not yet underway, and no one has been shortlisted for the role.
Taking to Threads, answering a fan’s question about The Caped Crusader, Gunn said, “No one is in the running. We haven’t started casting yet.”
Fans have been speculating who might be a good fit for the DCU’s Bruce Wayne, with names like Alan Ritchson making the rounds online. While Ritchson revealed that a conversation about Batman had taken place, he did not see the character as a part of his DCU journey.
A new live-action Batman movie is being released in 2028 by DC
While Brave and the Bold might not be making it into theaters anytime soon, that does not mean that DC is not going to release a live-action Batman movie in 2028. The follow-up to Matt Reeves’ The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on February 18, 2028.
The movie will be the second entry in what is envisioned to be a movie trilogy and the third entry in the franchise overall. The story for The Batman Part II will take place weeks after the flooding of Gotham, which occurred in the climax of the first movie. It will also follow up on developments from the Penguin TV series.
Apart from returning cast members like Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell, new faces will also join the movie. Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Scarlett Johansson, and Brian Tyree Henry have all been cast in undisclosed roles. It is heavily rumored that Stan will play Harvey Dent, Johansson his wife, and Dance his abusive father.
