Over ten years after Captain America: Civil War divided the Avengers, MCU star Chris Evans has chosen a side. The actor recently opened up about his personal allegiance to Marvel, revealing that his choice may not be what fans expect.
The film primarily dealt with the Avengers contending with the Sokovia Accords, a proposal requiring superheroes to operate under government oversight. In the film, Captain America chose the side of freedom, while Iron Man wanted the heroes to choose accountability and sign the accords.
In a special appearance on the Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast, Evans told fans about his “controversial” stance on the debate between Iron Man and Captain America from the film. The debate led to the fracturing of the Avengers, a plot point that also played a major role in the Phase 3 finale.
“You know, as the character, I stand by Team Cap’s position,” said Evans. “Me personally, I might be Team Iron Man. I know that’s probably controversial to say.”
Chris Evans’ Captain America returns in Avengers: Doomsday
Chris Evans last played the role of Steve Rogers in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then, the actor has appeared in the MCU once, as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor will reprise the role of Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. The film’s trailers have shown Rogers reuniting with Thor and the other Avengers as they prepare to face off against Doctor Doom.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Evans recently revealed what his character has been up to since Endgame. To preserve the mystery around its plot, Evans was referred to as Luke Cage on the film’s set. Doomsday will mark Evans’ 11th appearance in the MCU, where he’ll once again face off against Robert Downey Jr., who now plays the antagonist.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
