Carnage will return and try to corrupt another popular Spider-Man character this year. In celebration of Spider-Woman‘s 50th anniversary, Marvel has revealed a bold new era for the character, in which she must battle the Carnage symbiote after it possesses her.
Jessica Drew will be possessed by the Carnage symbiote in Spider-Woman #1, which will be released this November. The ongoing series will be written by Dan Watters (Loki) and artist Andrea Broccardo (Spider-Man Noir).
The official description reads, “CARNAGE NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD! Old foes back from the dead! Mysteries around every corner! And a bloodthirsty Carnage just barely kept contained! It’s a recipe for Spider-Woman’s darkest adventure yet—as the darkness within Jessica Drew threatens to break free…”
In the new adventure, Drew finds herself back to her private investigator roots. Teaming up with journalist Ben Urich, she sets out to uncover the hidden threats lurking in the shadows that her fellow heroes often overlook. Fans can get a first look at the character in September in the Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special #1.

What did the creators of the Spider-Woman series say about Jessica Drew’s next chapter?
The writer and artist released official statements about their upcoming collaboration. Waters stated, “I’m over the moon that Andrea and I are continuing the story of the mysterious Spider-Woman we start in the Anniversary specials.”
Broccardo added that he is excited to be a part of the character’s new adventure. “After Spider-Man Noir, it’s great to come back to that dark atmosphere that I love,” the artist added.
“I knew Dan from his work on Batman, and it’s awesome to work with him. He writes very good scripts,” he continued while expressing his excitement about the collaboration, “When I read the story and start drawing it, I can visualize in my mind the scenes described in the script—even the smells and sounds.” I’m happy to work on this series with him, and I’m pretty curious where Jessica’s life will go from here!”
The duo also described the series as a “detective noir story.” The lead character will be investigating strange crimes in New York City for the Daily Bugle. The artist also said the series would lean heavily into horror and gore, calling it “super stimulating” for him.
