Carrie Earns Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score for Any Mike Flanagan TV Show Yet, But There’s a Catch

Mike Flanagan’s highly anticipated TV show Carrie may not be his best project yet. Early reviews for the reimagining of the classic Stephen King horror story are now out. At the time of this article’s publication, Carrie has an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score from 39 reviews.

As a result, the TV miniseries currently has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any Mike Flanagan show. For reference, Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass have higher scores. However, Carrie has still been reviewed positively compared to many other shows. It remains to be seen how well audiences like it.

Flanagan’s Carrie expands Stephen King’s story with a deeper look at its characters and themes

The upcoming TV show is the latest adaptation of King’s debut novel. Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, and the show updates many story elements for the modern world. The show follows Carrie, a high school girl who gains telekinetic powers after being bullied at school. Most recently, the episode titles gave fans a good idea of what to expect.

Besides Howell, Carrie stars Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard. Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham also guest star.

Flanagan directed four of the eight episodes. He also wrote the upcoming horror feature Clayface, set in the DC Universe. The filmmaker is currently directing The Exorcist: Martyrs, set for release next year. Most recently, Flanagan directed The Life of Chuck, another adaptation of a Stephen King story. He is also the showrunner on Carrie and is executive producing it with Trevor Macy and Stephen King.

Carrie premieres on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, with all eight episodes.
