Clayface Fans Think They’ve Found DCU Movie’s Secret Man of Tomorrow Easter Egg

DC fans believe they’ve spotted a clever easter egg in Clayface that links it to next year’s Man of Tomorrow. Set in Gotham City, the third DC Studios film tells the origin story of the Batman villain. Although the film primarily focuses on its titular character, one scene may hint at a connection to the upcoming Superman sequel.

Avengers: Armageddon Twist Raises Questions About Sebastian Stan’s MCU Future

Some fans believe a scene in the film may reference Superman villain Brainiac and his collection of bottled cities. X user @AjepArts wrote that one scene explicitly mentions UFOs, Area 51, and experiments involving containing a subject in a bottle or pod. Another user suggested that the reference to bottled subjects could be a nod to Brainiac.

In DC Comics, Brainiac is infamous for shrinking and collecting cities from across the universe. Most importantly, Brainiac has been known to possess the bottled city of Kandor, the former capital of Superman’s home.

Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters next summer

It remains to be seen whether the scene will pay off in Man of Tomorrow, which arrives next summer. James Gunn’s Superman sequel will continue the story of David Corenswet’s hero. The sequel’s narrative will see Corenswet’s Superman team up with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. The upcoming film will also feature Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart from Lanterns, along with Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle. Man of Tomorrow releases in theaters on July 9, 2027.

Now playing in theaters, Clayface brings the DCU’s version of Gotham City to the screen. While it doesn’t feature Batman directly, it does establish the Dark Knight as the city’s protector. It is the DCU’s first R-rated film. Clayface has received positive reviews and is projected to have a strong opening weekend.

DC Studios has not announced whether Clayface will appear in future DCU projects. The studio has yet to announce the films that will be released following Man of Tomorrow next year.
