VisionQuest may have teased Jim Hammond’s MCU debut
VisionQuest’s D23 display may have offered the first look at Jim Hammond, Marvel’s original Human Torch, entering the MCU.
Photos from the exhibition floor show White Vision’s suit alongside concept art featuring a mysterious fiery figure. The display reveals a character engulfed in flames standing in what appears to be a burning room or town.
Jim Hammond was a synthetic human created by Professor Phineas T. Horton in Marvel Comics. He served as a member of The Invaders during World War II and holds significance as Marvel’s first-ever superhero. A closer look at the fiery figure’s chest and shoulder design resembles the costume Hammond wore in his later comic book appearances.
Hammond previously appeared as an Easter egg in Captain America: The First Avenger. Howard Stark’s World Exposition of Tomorrow featured a synthetic man in a glass case, nodding to the original Human Torch. VisionQuest could now fully bring that long-standing tease to life within the MCU’s storyline.
The show already features several android and AI characters from across the MCU’s history. Paul Bettany returns as White Vision, exploring memories he received but never actually lived through. James Spader reprises his role as Ultron, appearing in both AI and human form throughout the series.
Emily Hampshire joins the cast as a human version of E.D.I.T.H., Tony Stark’s AI system. Orla Brady will portray F.R.I.D.A.Y. in human form, replacing earlier rumors about Kerry Condon. James D’Arcy also returns as Edwin Jarvis in some capacity alongside these characters.
T’nia Miller plays Jocasta, described as the Bride of Ultron who is “cunning, powerful and driven by revenge.” Ruaridh Mollica’s character Tucker will serve as the vessel for Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed.
VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ on October 14, 2026.
