Luc Besson’s Dracula follows an immortal prince’s quest to reunite with his lost love

Besson reimagines Dracula as a 15th-century prince who witnesses the brutal murder of his wife. As he renounces God, he is reborn as an immortal warlord, cursed to walk the Earth forever.

Dracula vows to reunite with his lover and desperately searches for his wife’s reincarnations across several lifetimes, leaving a blood trail along the way. When he finally finds her, a relentless priest tries to hunt him down and stop the carnage once and for all.

The horror romance stars Caleb Landry Jones as the titular prince and Christoph Waltz as the priest. Other cast members include Zoë Bleu, Guillaume de Tonquédec, Matilda De Angelis, Ewens Abid, Bertrand-Xavier Corbi, Thalia Besson, Raphael Luce, and David Shields.

Speaking with ComingSoon’s Brandon Schreur during the press campaign, Waltz detailed how his collaborative discussions with Besson drew him to the project.

“It’s Luc’s Dracula, by usage of elements from Bram Stoker,” Waltz explained. “That helps the story, of course, because that’s what the story is. But it’s more than a version. It’s really his story.”

Waltz added, “The conversation about that is what sort of facilitated my involvement in the — yeah, in the way, discussion about what this story is and what it could be. My participation, as an actor, kind of emerged. I love that fluid transition from conversation into action.”

Despite its modest box office performance, Besson’s Dracula was a massive success among fans, with many praising Caleb Landry Jones’ performance as the titular protagonist.
