Let’s hope Noomi Rapace does a better job of saving the future this time than she did in Prometheus. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo alumnus stars in Netflix‘s latest take on the post-apocalypse world, Black Crab. Adam Berg, a former music video director for the Cardigans and A-ha, makes his feature debut as writer-director. Berg will direct a remake of David Cronenberg’s Videodrome next.
The original Swedish novel, Svart Krabba, was the first by author Jerker Virdborg. It was nominated for a Swedish Radio novel prize in 2003. Netflix today debuted the first batch of photos from the film adaptation, which feature Rapace and others in a harsh winterscape. Check them all out in our gallery below. Rapace plays a former championship skater, whose skills will help a small military team. On a mission to end the war, they must carry a mysterious package through icy enemy territory.
Here’s the official Netflix synopsis:
“Black Crab is a Swedish action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by war. During a long, harsh winter, six soldiers embark on a covert mission across a frozen archipelago, risking their lives to transport a mysterious package that could end the war. As they enter hostile enemy territory, they have no idea what dangers lie ahead or who—if anyone—they can trust. But for speed skater turned soldier Caroline Edh, the mission is about something else entirely. Starring Noomi Rapace in a film directed by Adam Berg, Black Crab follows six soldiers on a desperate mission to bring an end to the war which has destroyed their lives.”
Other cast members include Jakob Oftebro (Kon-Tiki), Erik Enge, Dar Salim (Game of Thrones), Ardalan Esmaili, Aliette Opheim, and David Dencik. Black Crab releases on March 18.
