A former Harry Potter star’s upcoming horror movie receives a major release date update. The film is a follow-up to a previous part by Finnish filmmaker Hanna Bergholm.
What is the release date for the new horror movie with Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint?
Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, also known for Servant and Knock at the Cabin, has a new horror movie, Nightborn, coming out on Shudder. The platform just announced that it has acquired the rights to Bergholm’s film. Nightborn will be released for streaming on Shudder on July 31, 2026.
It’s the second offering in Bergholm’s horror series, which saw the previous movie, titled Hatching. It was her debut horror flick, released in 2022.
The cast of the upcoming film also features Seidi Haarla (Compartment Number 6), alongside Pamela Tola, Pirkko Saisio, Rebecca Lacey, and John Thomson.
According to the official synopsis of Nightborn, it “follows Saga and her British husband Jon, who move to an isolated house deep in the forest with dreams of starting a perfect family. But as soon as their baby is born, despite the reassurance of all around her, Saga knows there’s something terribly wrong with her son. As their marriage starts to crack, Jon struggles to support his wife, but only Saga suspects the disturbing truth about her newborn.”

Nightborn has Daniel Kuitunen as the producer alongside Nick Shumaker and David Levine as the executive producers.
”I am really excited for our film to be released on Shudder! Nightborn is a film made for genre enthusiasts, parents and anyone who has ever asked themselves: Why do I feel different?”, said director Bergholm while expressing her happiness over the latest announcement.
Grint has several other projects lined up for release in 2026 besides Nightborn. He will also appear in a new fantasy movie, titled Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. It also features Johnny Depp, Andrea Riseborough, and Ian McKellen, among others.
