Hugh Jackman has reignited fans’ concerns about Wolverine’s future. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking to finally tap into the X-Men, there is no certainty that Wolverine will be a part of it.
In a recent video posted on social media, Jackman can be spotted requesting Kevin Feige to give him an opportunity to reprise his iconic role once more. Jackman could be heard saying, “Hey, D23. Hope you’re all having a great time. I just wanted to check in. Just totally unprompted (0:30) and uh…Just wondering if you might need some help.”
He further added, “So, anyway, if you guys need some help rounding out the cast, l’d love to join. And, I don’t know, I might be able to convince Ryan to appear in Avengers Doomsday. But no pressure.” During the entire segment, Ryan Reynolds could be heard constantly prompting him and whispering in the background.
This message instantly had the fans’ attention. They wondered if the MCU is planning on moving forward with its X-Men lineup without the iconic Wolverine. Moreover, the speculation has grown owing to the timing of Jackman’s request. Just days ago, Feige had unveiled several choices for their X-Men lineup at D23.
Marvel’s new X-Men lineup leaves Wolverine’s next move unclear
In a recent D23 announcement, Marvel announced the names of their X-Men actors. Previously, the likes of Sadie Sink, Samara Weaving, and Kit Connor were already confirmed as Jean Grey, Emma Frost, and Cyclops. At D23, they added Inde Navarrette, Christopher Abbott, Maya Boyd, and Adam Driver as Rogue, Professor X, Storm, and Mister Sinister.
While several original stars from the Fox universe will be reprising their roles in recent Multiverse projects, their long-term future remains uncertain. Moreover, this recent announcement has made it clear that the fresh lineup will be leading the franchise forward.
Without the mention of Wolverine, fans are now wondering if there will be no Jackman in the future. On the contrary, not adding a new actor as Wolverine always keeps the door open for Jackman to come in. There is even more confusion since Marvel has listed Deadpool & Wolverine in its must-watch list for Avengers: Doomsday.
