Jon Bernthal has one line that appears in almost everything he does, and The Odyssey was no exception. The actor traced the origins of his signature catchphrase and explained why writers keep putting it in his scripts.

Jon Bernthal’s ‘let me tell you something’ line confirmed for The Odyssey

The Odyssey actor Jon Bernthal reveals his iconic “let me tell you something” catchphrase made its way into Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film during a new CBR interview.

The Punisher star addressed the recurring phrase that has spawned countless internet memes over the years. Bernthal traced the famous line back to his portrayal of Shane on The Walking Dead. He shared that the dialogue originally felt right for that particular character.

“So much of the time, I know this is crazy, but it is, it’s even in the play I’m doing now,” Bernthal stated. The actor expressed awareness of the widespread online jokes surrounding his frequent use of the expression. He pointed to The Walking Dead as the starting point for the trend.

“I think it started in Walking Dead. Because it was sort of in there, and I was like, you know, that makes sense for this guy,” Bernthal shared. He began weaving the phrase into more of his performances after that initial run. Screenwriters across Hollywood then started embedding the line into his scripts deliberately.

“It’s in every script,” Jon Bernthal admitted. The catchphrase eventually became a defining element of his Punisher role in the Marvel Netflix series. His interviewer described feeling thrilled upon noticing the line in The Odyssey trailer footage.

“I cheered when it happened,” the interviewer told Bernthal about the moment in the film. Jon Bernthal portrays Menelaus in The Odyssey alongside Tom Holland as Telemachus. Their shared scene includes the actor’s now legendary catchphrase.

Bernthal next appears as Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026. The Odyssey adds to the growing list of projects featuring his signature expression. Fans can expect the familiar phrase when both films arrive in theaters.
