Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 4 Tribute To Kill Bill Explained

For its latest episodes, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 has taken inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s iconic Kill Bill Vol. 1. The episode features the conflict between Maki and the Zenin Clan, showcasing bloody and action-packed scenes, similar to the movie.

Here are the details on how the episode paid tribute to Kill Bill.

How Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 4 pays tribute to Kill Bill

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 4, “Perfect Preparation,” showcases MAPPA, the animation studio’s capability to deliver flawless animation sequences while staying true to the story. While the episode portrayed Maki’s gruesome battle against her own people, the Zenin Clan, it also served as a love letter to Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

The episode doesn’t mention anything directly from the iconic movie. However, it does portray the visual and emotional core as seen in Kill Bill. Like the movie, the episode revolves around grief and anger. For a long time, the Zenin Clan has treated both Maki and her twin sister, Mai, unfairly, believing them to be inauspicious for the sorcerers.

After the devastating loss of her sister, Maki kills her father and approaches the vault to take the cursed tools. On her way, she is confronted by the Hei sorcerers. With her newfound potential, Maki slashes her way through them, leaving no one alive. This is very similar to how the Bride in Kill Bill battles against the Crazy 88 members.

At the beginning, both fights are showcased in color, which later turns to black and white, as more people continue to die. And with the intense orchestral piece playing in the background, the episode fully leans into a Kill Bill-style homage.

Maki then continues to make her way through the estate. And by the end of the episode, she kills Kukuru and leaves Naoya on the verge of death, allowing her mother to take the final strike.
