New Avengers: Doomsday Teasers Meet With Surprising Fan Backlash

Marvel’s latest Avengers: Doomsday teasers left fans divided, and the reactions were anything but subtle. From World Series frustrations to a follow-up TV spot, viewers had plenty to say about the studio’s marketing approach.

Marvel dropped a new Avengers: Doomsday teaser during Game 1 of the World Series on Thursday, but fans felt underwhelmed after the sneak peek delivered only a few seconds of new footage.

The clip showed Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic throwing a ceremonial first pitch before cutting to commentary from MLB players. It also offered brief looks at Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

The spot also featured Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Letitia Wright’s Black Panther, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America. Despite MLB teasing an “exclusive preview” earlier that day, the clip contained no major reveals. “THAT’S IT???” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another added, “All of that just for like 10 seconds of new footage.”

“Sooo 1 new scene… barely,” another noted on X. One frustrated viewer posted, “I had to watch 3 innings of f—— BASEBALL for this s—.” Another simply responded, “Oh so like 3 new seconds lol.” A different fan commented, “This is literally Marvel saying, ‘Here, have some crumbs.’”

Marvel followed up the next day by releasing an extended TV spot that included additional dialogue and fresh footage. “They should’ve just showed this extended tv spot yesterday since you had extended dialogue,” one fan wrote on X. Many viewers shared that frustration over the World Series teaser feeling light compared to the newer spot.

Still, some fans appreciated Marvel holding back on reveals. “I actually like that they’re recycling the same scenes,” one supporter wrote. “I don’t want them to give too much away like with Spider-Man BND.” Another agreed, writing, “I honestly am not mad they didn’t show more, I want to enjoy every minute in that theatre.”

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
