Paranormal Activity Reboot Movie’s Release Date Delayed by Several Months

Paramount has pushed back the release of its upcoming Paranormal Activity reboot by several months. It now moves the horror film from May 21, 2027, to October 22, 2027, closer to the Halloween season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster are developing the project, with director Ian Tuason leading the attempt to bring the franchise back to theaters. The film stars Chase Yi, Sonia Mena and Maya da Costa, while franchise creator Oren Peli remains involved as a producer.

The delay also gives the reboot more time before its theatrical debut. The Paranormal Activity franchise has generated more than $900 million worldwide. The box office history gives the upcoming installment a substantial commercial legacy to build on.

The Paranormal Activity reboot brings a new creative team to the franchise

The original film arrived in 2009, written and directed by Oren Peli. Its found footage approach followed a couple who began recording strange disturbances inside their home. The eighth film will reportedly be set in the house from the original movie.

The franchise expanded with several sequels, including Paranormal Activity 2 in 2010, Paranormal Activity 3 in 2011, and Paranormal Activity 4 in 2012. After six main installments, the series went on hiatus before returning with Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin in 2021. An earlier reboot, announced in 2022 and titled Paranormal Activity: The Other Side, never reached its planned 2023 release.

Ian Tuason now has the opportunity to take the series in a new direction. He made his feature directorial debut with Undertone. The project premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where it won the audience award for Best Canadian Feature, before A24 acquired it.

Paranormal Activity 8 also marks James Wan’s first foray into the franchise as a producer. Known for developing horror properties such as The Conjuring and Insidious, Wan joins Peli and Jason Blum on the project.
