Peacemaker Season 2’s premiere has sparked buzz as its full-frontal orgy sequence brought Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder idea into reality, while also unveiling a multiverse twist to set up the season.

James Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2 opens with a storyline that echoes Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder. That film featured Zeus openly discussing godly orgies during the Omnipotence City sequence.
In Peacemaker, the Season 2 premiere shows John Cena’s Christopher Smith spiraling into a drug-fueled hallucination. The scene transforms into a full-frontal orgy with dozens of naked extras in a chaotic, graphic tableau. It marks one of the most explicit depictions of sexuality in a live-action DC adaptation.
The orgy setup follows Peacemaker’s humiliation during his Justice Gang interview. Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern mock him as a failed hero. Rejected, he returns home, smokes marijuana, and takes cocaine.
This quickly transitions into a house filled with men and women engaged in sexual activity. Unlike Marvel’s brief joke in Thor 4, Peacemaker visualizes the concept fully. Its lead character stands clothed in the center, detached and numb.
This moment also parallels another superhero series known for pushing boundaries: The Boys. In Season 3 Episode 6, the Amazon Prime show adapted the infamous “Herogasm” storyline. It featured over 40 naked extras, with intimacy coordinators and special effects managing the production.
Showrunner Eric Kripke said he had been challenged for years to bring “Herogasm” to screen, describing it as a “dangerous and sticky endeavor” due to the scale of simulated sex acts and the logistical challenges of filming during the COVID-19 pandemic (via Entertainment Weekly).
Thor: Love and Thunder’s god-orgy gag, The Boys’ “Herogasm,” and Peacemaker Season 2 all highlight the use of adult themes in superhero media.
In addition, Peacemaker also introduces a multiverse arc in which Christopher Smith encounters alternate versions of his family through his father’s portal.
