Though Preacher fans are no doubt heartbroken over the next season being its last, it looks like AMC is saving the best for last. The season will make its premiere later this summer. The network recently shared three new images to give us an idea of what to expect from this final go-around.
As the series inches closer to the finale, God’s endgame for the universe begins to click into place. Trapped between heavenly prophecies, hellish prisons, and all-out nuclear war, Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy make their bloody way to the Most High. Whether they can reach God in time — or whether all this carnage is part of His divine plan — will soon be revealed as Preacher barrels towards the end of the world.
The images are available in the gallery below, but here’s a quick recap of what you’ll find.
The first image features Dominic Cooper’s character, Jesse Custer, walking through some kind of metal detector. As he does so, a soldier looks on at his actions, even though he has his hands right out.
As for the second image, it’s more on the moody side. It features series star Ruth Negga, as Tulip O’Hare, taking a break inside some sort of darkened house, with a lit-up neon sign.
But out of all the images, the third notably stands out. In it, Cassidy, portrayed by Joseph Gilgun, appears to be in the midst of a bloodthirsty hunt. He sits in some form of prison cell, with a bunch of entrails around his feet. This should set the tone for what could very well be Preacher’s bloodiest season to date.
Executive producer and showrunner Sam Catlin returns for the final season, alongside Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
Preacher’s final season is set to premiere on August 4 at 9 PM EDT on AMC. What do you think about the tone the latest season will set? Let us know in the comments below!
