A new R.L. Stine feature starring Elvira’s Cassandra Peterson is now streaming for free. Pumpkinhead 2, the sequel to the 2025 feature that also stars Peterson, is now streaming on Tubi. Like its predecessor, the sequel is based on a story from Stine’s 1999 anthology book, Nightmare Hour.
Jem Garrard, director of Pumpkinhead, returned to helm the sequel. She revealed that when the first movie was in production, no one planned a sequel. “You know, it wasn’t a plan to make a sequel. When Tubi approached me about the Haunting Hour, Stein’s collection of shorts, we were sort of going back and forth on what would be a great first one to launch.”
What is R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 about?
Pumpkinhead 2 takes place a year after the first movie. At the end of Pumpkinhead, Bean Reid’s Sam was able to put the terrible ritual to an end, which demanded that a child be sacrificed and wiped from the townsfolk’s memories. However, everyone, including Sam’s parents, had forgotten him. Only the sheriff’s daughter, Becka, and, for some reason, Matty Finochio’s Rusty remember him.
The first movie took many liberties with its source material. However, the sequel ventured into completely uncharted territory, since the story never had a literary follow-up. The story follows Sam as he tries to reverse the fact that his family does not remember him. But things get complicated when one of his classmates gets hold of the tome he seeks.
The sequel also doesn’t take cues from The Haunting Hour series, which featured an episode called Return of the Pumpkinheads, and instead adapts R.L. Stine’s terrifying anthology. Critics describe the sequel as aiming for a bigger story, raising the stakes for its main characters.
