Marvel Studios may be taking a page from its own Punisher playbook before launching its rumored detective series on Disney+. Multiple insiders have weighed in on how the studio plans to roll out the project, and the strategy could mirror a familiar MCU approach.
Marvel’s rumored Detective Show will happen if its Special is successful
Marvel’s rumored detective project will start as a Special Presentation, according to insider Daniel RPK via MCU Film News. The studio will reportedly develop a full series only if the special performs well. RPK shared the update on X on September 9.
The scoop aligns with earlier claims from insider James Mack. Mack stated on X on September 6, “about the detective thing, i had heard that it was supposed to be a special show about Luke Cage and Iron Fist, planned for next year, but I don’t know anything about a series about them.” His report pointed to a Special Presentation rather than a full series.
RPK initially reported on September 6 that Marvel Studios was developing a detective series. He later clarified he did not yet know the lead character. RPK also ruled out Tony Masters as the project’s focal point.
The project draws comparisons to DC’s Lanterns on HBO. That show follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart solving crimes in a small town. Marvel’s detective special could adopt a similar buddy-cop tone with Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The Punisher Special Presentation already set a precedent by spinning out of Daredevil: Born Again.
Mike Colter and Finn Jones have confirmed returns as Luke Cage and Iron Fist respectively. Both actors will appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, premiering in March 2027. A Heroes for Hire special could serve as a natural extension of that show’s storylines.
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the detective project. However, Jeff Sneider reported on The Hot Mic that a new special would feature “somebody, like people you know, investigating crimes in the MCU.” The project aligns with Marvel’s shift toward smaller, genre-driven stories under the Marvel Spotlight banner.
