Street Fighter Movie Casts Beloved Action Star as Fan-Favorite Character, View First Look

The upcoming Street Fighter movie has announced a new cast member, bringing a popular action star into its live-action adaptation. The announcement comes just days before the film opens in theaters.

The film’s official X account confirmed that Don Lee will play Gouken. The announcement also revealed a brand-new anime-style poster featuring the character. The striking artwork highlights the mentor’s muscular build and traditional battle attire.

In the franchise, Gouken is a martial arts master who trained Ryu and Ken. However, the filmmakers have yet to reveal Lee’s live-action look as Gouken. At NYCC, the makers released a special animated video exploring Ryu and Ken’s backstory, including scenes of Gouken training them. It remains unclear whether Lee will voice Gouken in the animated sequences or portray him in live-action.

The South Korean-American actor is best known for Train to Busan, The Outlaws, and Eternals. He is also set to appear in Chris Hemsworth’s third Extraction movie.

Produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom, the upcoming adaptation features a stacked ensemble. It stars Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.

Other cast members include Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma. Cody Rhodes will play Guile, while Vidyut Jammwal will portray Dhalsim. El Fuerte is also expected to appear in the film, but his casting remains under wraps.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken, who are drawn back into combat when Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. They soon uncover a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face each other and confront their pasts.

Street Fighter opens in theaters on October 16, 2026, with Paramount Pictures handling distribution.
