Antony Starr, who plays John Gillman / Homelander on the Prime Video superhero series The Boys, said farewell to the hit show through a social media post. The Boys premiered on Prime Video on July 26, 2019, to critical acclaim and positive fan reception. The show is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Starr took to Instagram and shared multiple photos featuring his character, set photos, and photos with fellow cast members. The actor posted an extensive note in the caption, reflecting on the conclusion of the production and thanking his collaborators and fans. Notably, filming for The Boys Season 5 ended in June 2025.
“Ok. Been waiting a little to let things settle and try and process the end of this show,” Starr wrote at the beginning of the caption before mentioning that it was “difficult” for him to express “what an incredible ride this has been” and called the show “the highlight” of his career. He went on to note the incredible run the series enjoyed over the years and didn’t forget to mention the issues it experienced during COVID-19 and the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Starr continued, “And at the end of the shoot, all there really is to say is- thank you. The incredible Canadian crew. The amazing production team. The insanely talented cast. The people at Amazon and Sony that took a chance on this insane thing (and made the great choice in casting me) and all the other people that contributed in some way, big or small, to this beautiful, complex, warped, delicious show.”
The actor then reiterated his love for Homelander, adding that he would miss going to work and portraying such a “complicated” character that allowed him “the space and range to discover and push boundaries in a way” that he never expected.
Starr called series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke his “co-parent” for Homelander and wrote that he would miss both of them.
The fifth and final season of The Boys is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
