Last month, Matrix fans continued to celebrate the original film’s 20th anniversary with news that a fourth installment is in the works. However, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of another important piece of Matrix media. Now, via Bleeding Cool, The Matrix comics are getting re-released in a deluxe hardcover edition.
The Wachowskis published the comics through Burlyman Entertainment. They were initially released online between 1999 and 2003, although Warner Bros. briefly experimented with handing out physical copies to theatergoers as well. A number of A-list comic book creators were recruited by the Wachowskis to tell stories set in the Matrix universe. Neil Gaiman, Bill Sienkiewicz, Dave Gibbons, and Tim Sale were among the creators who contributed scripts and artwork. The Wachowskis also collaborated on a story with Matrix concept artist Geof Darrow. Previously, the comics were collected in two separate paperback volumes.
Burlyman’s upcoming 20th anniversary deluxe edition collects all of The Matrix comics in a single hardcover edition. Additionally, fans will get to pore through stories and 64 pages of stories that have never been released. You can check out the cover art for the book, as well as a preliminary alternate design featuring Trinity, below.
The Matrix Comics: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will hit stores on November 6. Do you plan on picking up this new collection? Let us know in the comment section below!
