DC Studios just gave fans their first real look at its strangest gamble to date. A leaked set video from The People v. Gorilla Grodd shows what appears to be an a cappella group belting out LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” and the internet cannot decide whether to laugh or panic.

The DCU continues expanding rapidly. Lanterns keeps drawing strong numbers, Man of Tomorrow arrives next year, and rumors swirl about a Wonder Woman project. Yet none of those titles feel as risky as this one. The People v. Gorilla Grodd has true crime, mockumentary comedy, and superhero lore packed into a single HBO Max series, and early video suggests DC means to lean fully into the absurdity.
The setup already sounds unusual. Skyler Gisondo returns as Jimmy Olsen, the Daily Planet reporter he played in James Gunn’s Superman. This time, Olsen hosts a true-crime docuseries investigating whether Gorilla Grodd wrongly went down for murdering his father, the king of Gorilla City. According to IMDb, the logline reads, “Follows a true-crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen investigating DC villains. Season one centers on Gorilla Grodd, who gained psychic powers after an alien encounter.”
Set photos previously shared by @AtlantaDCFans reveal something fans did not expect: a practical Gorilla Grodd suit instead of a full CGI creation. The superintelligent ape appears in casual senior clothing and later in gray graduation robes and a cap. Additionally, the video from @homeofdcu pushed the conversation further. It appears to include a brief line of dialogue, prompting fans to dissect the voice and wonder whether they just heard Jimmy Tatro voicing the titular ape. The audio stays murky, so nothing is confirmed.
Reactions are split. Some commenters wrote the show off immediately. Most, however, responded with genuine excitement. It hints that DC may have found a viewership hungry for something weird rather than another straightforward superhero work. HBO Max ordered eight episodes. No release date has surfaced yet, and filming only recently began at a U.S. university.
