Fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Street Fighter have crossed over ahead of the action film’s release. Although the new crossover is not a major one, the artwork highlights the brotherly rivalry shared by characters in both franchises.
The official Street Fighter account released artwork by the artist Jude Buffum. The artwork depicts Ninja Turtles Leonardo and Raphael facing off against the backdrop of a classic Street Fighter game. The caption reads, “Brother vs. brother. A rivalry worthy of the World Warrior Tournament,” paying homage to Ryu and Ken’s rivalry in the upcoming movie.
The two franchises have previously crossed over in video games and comics. For instance, in 2023, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Street Fighter, a five-issue mini-series was published by IDW Publishing. The Street Fighter 6 in-game collaboration allowed players to design the characters as the four Ninja Turtles. Additionally, a Street Fighter: Duel mobile game collaboration was also released by Crunchyroll Games and Capcom. The event used designs from the 1987 cartoon and featured M. Bison allying with Shredder, prompting the Turtles to team up with Ryu, Chun-Li, and the World Warriors.
How Street Fighter’s Ryu and Ken inspired this TMNT crossover
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles art by Buffum draws a parallel between Street Fighter characters Ryu and Ken Masters. In the video game, the two share a lifelong bond as surrogate brothers, training partners, and childhood best friends. Their dynamic perfectly mirrors that of the two Ninja Turtles in the artwork, who share a similar bond built on friendly rivalry.
The upcoming Street Fighter movie will take a darker, high-stakes turn in the characters’ bond, serving as the emotional core of the narrative. The official description reads, “Street Fighters Ryu and Ken reunite when Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. As they face a hidden conspiracy, they must confront each other and their past or face destruction.”
Kitao Sakurai directs Street Fighter. Andrew Koji plays Ryu, while Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters. The cast also includes Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Roman Reigns as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. The movie will be released in theaters on October 16, 2026.
