What Happened in Wonder Man’s Alternate Ending Revealed

Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, the creators of the new MCU series Wonder Man, revealed in a recent interview that they once envisioned an alternate ending for the Disney+ series. Wonder Man is the 17th television show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and tells the story of two actors, Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), as they chase roles that might change their lives.

Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest reveal that Wonder Man had an alternate ending

Creton and Guest recently discussed Wonder Man during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. When asked if it was always the plan to end the show the way viewers see in the finale, Creton replied, “Emotionally, that was always the ending,” before Guest added, “There was an alternate version where they performed in a black box theater together and levitated off the floor. That’s true.”

However, Guest proceeded to note that they knew the ending would always be about “these two narcissists who, for the first time in their lives, put somebody else in front of their own needs.” The screenwriter continued, “Simon and Trevor both needed to learn that, and it’s hopefully rewarding to watch them do that for the right reasons and because they love each other, essentially.”

When the interviewer asked what the pair would have been performing at the black box theater, Guest said, “I believe it was Hamlet or something.” He then corrected himself, revealing that it was a play that Trevor wrote and elaborating that it initially wasn’t good, but Simon “kind of bails him out and makes it good.”

Creton subsequently expanded on this. “Trevor disappears, and then he gets into writing and puts on this play,” he said. “That would have been cool.”

Notably, in the show’s current ending, Simon breaks Trevor out of prison, and they escape together.

Wonder Man premiered on Disney+ on January 27, 2026. All eight episodes of the series are currently streaming on the platform.
