Will Mephisto Return in Ghost Rider? Sacha Baron Cohen Just Answered

Marvel’s Ghost Rider is set to return in a new reboot, and fans are already asking whether the devil will tag along. Mephisto actor Sacha Baron Cohen has now been put on the spot, and his reply is getting attention.

Sacha Baron Cohen on whether his Mephisto is in Ghost Rider

Cohen was recently asked if he will play Mephisto again in the new Ghost Rider movie. He said he has “no idea” and that he genuinely doesn’t know. That short reply invites two readings. Cohen may simply be out of the loop. He may also be protecting a studio secret, since Marvel guards its casting closely and actors usually hold their tongues until the studio speaks first.

The facts support caution. Marvel has not confirmed Cohen’s involvement, and Ryan Gosling is the only cast member announced so far. Since the film was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, insiders have said Cohen will return but that the demon won’t be the main villain. Marvel Studios has verified none of those claims.

For now, Gosling headlines, Shawn Levy directs, and Jonathan Tropper wrote the script. The film is going to release on July 28, 2028, and cameras haven’t started rolling. Marvel boss Kevin Feige declined to describe Gosling’s character at Comic-Con.

In the comics, Johnny Blaze signs a pact with Mephisto that turns him into the Spirit of Vengeance. Earlier movies kept that tie alive. Peter Fonda played the demon in 2007, and Ciarán Hinds took over in 2012. Because this project is expected to reboot the hero inside the main MCU, a returning Mephisto would fit naturally.

Cohen first appeared as Mephisto in the Ironheart finale in June 2025. Riri Williams strikes a bargain with him to revive her best friend, and the deal leaves glowing veins on her arms. The villain has mostly vanished from view since.

With Ghost Rider more than a year and a half away, fans must wait for an official casting announcement. The devil may be lurking offstage, but Cohen isn’t telling.
